This is to inform the general public and all Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA) aspirants that the Department of Library & Information Technology admission requirements has been published.
The requirements cover the O Level credits, a school specific waiver, the four JAMB papers, two Direct Entry routes and the minimum UTME score. The waiver is the part that actually decides your subject list.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Library & Information Technology include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics and three other relevant Arts/Science/Social Science subjects
Read on its own, this line is very permissive. English Language and Mathematics are named and the other three credits may come from the Arts, the Sciences or the Social Sciences.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- FUTMINNA requires a credit pass in Physics and any other science or social science subject.
The waiver tightens that considerably and it is the condition FUTMINNA actually applies. A Physics credit is required, plus one further science or social science subject.
So a candidate with five credits drawn entirely from the Arts meets the general line but not the waiver, and would not qualify.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Any three subjects
The JAMB combination itself places no restriction beyond the compulsory English Language, which makes the O Level waiver the only real subject filter on the UTME route.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Library and Information Technology if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two A’ level passes in relevant subjects plus UTME requirements.
- NCE (merit) in relevant subjects
The A Level route attaches the UTME requirements, so the credits and the Physics waiver still apply. The NCE route asks for a merit in relevant subjects without naming them.

The Physics Waiver That Governs FUTMINNA Library and Information Technology
Two subject lists sit in this post and they do not say the same thing. The general line allows Arts subjects freely, while the FUTMINNA waiver requires a Physics credit and one more science or social science subject.
Plan around the waiver, since that is the school specific condition. English Language and Mathematics remain compulsory, the JAMB papers beyond English are unrestricted, and your score needs to reach 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
