This article is designed to help students who wish to study Biochemistry under the Faculty of Sciences at Kaduna State University.
It is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in KASU to carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.
All five Ordinary Level credits are named for this course, so there is no optional subject at all. English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology are each compulsory.
The JAMB combination is slightly looser, keeping Biology and Chemistry fixed and allowing a choice between Physics and Mathematics for the fourth paper.
The Kaduna State University was established under the Kaduna State Law Number 3 promulgated on 21st May 2004. The promulgation resulted from the obvious and felt need to boost higher education in the State and the country in general.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Biochemistry; You require;
Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Biology.
A candidate missing any single one of those five does not meet the condition, however strong the remaining grades are.

JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Biochemistry under the Faculty of Sciences in the above Universities include;
Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics.
That gives four papers with one genuine choice, so a candidate can offer whichever of Physics and Mathematics they are stronger in.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Biochemistry if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes chosen from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Biology.
- NCE/ND/HND in related programs plus the UTME requirements
Note that the second option does not replace the UTME conditions. An NCE, ND or HND must be held alongside them rather than in their place.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into KASU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
The threshold decides eligibility for the screening exercise. Candidates below it are not carried into the next stage.
A Closed Science List for KASU Biochemistry
This department expects a complete science profile at Ordinary Level, with all five credits named and nothing left to the candidate to choose.
The only flexibility appears in JAMB, where Physics and Mathematics are offered as alternatives to each other for the fourth paper.
Aspirants of Kaduna State University (KASU) applying by direct entry should remember that the UTME requirements still apply alongside their NCE, ND or HND.
