Medicine and Surgery is taught under the Faculty of Medical, Pharmaceutical & Health Sciences at Kaduna State University (KASU). Every O’Level credit is named, so nothing can be substituted at that stage.
Direct Entry does not replace the UTME conditions here, it adds to them. Advanced level passes are required on top of everything a UTME candidate must already hold.

Confirm that Medicine and Surgery appears on the current KASU course list and that your JAMB registration records it correctly before you sit the examination. A course entered in error cannot be assessed against these conditions.

Direct Entry Adds To, Rather Than Replaces, the KASU Medicine Requirements
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Every slot is named and none can be swapped for another subject.
The UTME combination keeps English Language compulsory and fills the other three places with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Mathematics is needed at credit level but is not written again.
Direct Entry asks for two ‘A’ Level or NCE passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Zoology, in addition to the UTME requirements rather than instead of them.
Zoology standing in for Biology at advanced level is the only substitution offered anywhere on this page.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at KASU. Medicine and Surgery is always heavily contested, so that figure marks eligibility only.
