This is the official list of courses and departments available at the Federal College of Education, Kano (FCEKANO).
Note: FCE Kano was upgraded to full university status in August 2024 and renamed Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano (YMSFUEK) in March 2025. The National Universities Commission has approved 28 degree programmes for the new university, set to commence from the 2026/2027 academic session, and the college’s NCE (Nigeria Certificate in Education) offerings are being phased out as part of the transition. Some NCE and Pre-NCE admissions were still running during the changeover, so applicants should confirm the current programme structure on the university’s official admission portal before applying.

Under its new status as Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, the institution has NUC approval for 28 degree programmes split across three faculties of education: General Education (B.Ed, covering Adult and Continuing Education, Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Social Studies and Civic Education, and Business Education), Arts Education (B.A. Ed, covering Islamic Studies, Christian Religious Studies, History, English, and Nigerian/foreign languages including Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Fulfulde, Arabic and French, plus Creative Arts Education), and Science Education (B.Sc. These degree programmes commenced from the 2026/2027 academic session, running alongside a wind-down of the legacy NCE programme. Candidates should check fcekano.edu.ng for the latest admission guidelines, since the switch from NCE to degree-only admission is still being finalised.
In Summary
Federal College of Education, Kano built its reputation on producing qualified teachers for Nigerian schools, and that mission carries into its new life as a degree-awarding university. Anyone applying for the 2026/2027 session should confirm directly with the school whether a chosen combination is still admitted under NCE or has moved to the new B.Ed/B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed structure.
