This article is designed to help students who wish to study History under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at Nigeria Defence Academy.
It is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in NDA to carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.
The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna is one of the first of two Military Universities in Nigeria. Nigerian Army University, established in 2018 in Biu, Borno State, is the other military university that does not offer military training.

O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study History; You require;
Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include History and English Language.
Only two of the five credits are specified. History and English Language are compulsory, and the other three carry no stated restriction at all, which is rare even among Arts programmes.
That leaves room for candidates whose strongest grades sit outside the Arts, provided History itself is at credit level.
Jamb Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study History under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at NDA include;
History and any other two subjects from Arts and Social Sciences.
The UTME form narrows things slightly. English Language is compulsory, History takes a second place, and the two remaining papers must be drawn from the Arts or Social Sciences rather than from any subject.
So the JAMB combination is actually more prescriptive than the O Level list, which is the reverse of what most candidates assume.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study History if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in History and other related subjects.
History is compulsory again on the Direct Entry route. The second pass is described only as a related subject, which keeps the door open to Government, Literature, Religious Studies and similar papers.
Jamb Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into NDA for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result.
How Few Subjects NDA History Actually Pins Down
History and English Language are the only two subjects named at O Level, and History is the one that carries through to the UTME combination and the Direct Entry passes as well.
Everything beyond that is open. Three O Level credits are unrestricted, two UTME papers may come from anywhere in the Arts or Social Sciences, and the second A Level pass need only be related. Make sure your JAMB score reaches 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
