The management of the University Of Ibadan (UI) has published the admission requirements for its Department of Archaeology, covering the O’level subjects, the UTME combination, the university JAMB cut-off and the departmental screening mark.
Archaeology at UI is treated as a science subject rather than a humanities one. Biology is named in both subject lists, and the optional papers are drawn from Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Geography.
Agricultural Science is specifically excluded at O’level, which catches out candidates who used it to complete a science combination at secondary school.
The admission requirements consist of O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.

O’level Subject Combinations
Candidates who wish to study Archaeology at the University Of Ibadan (UI) must possess five O’ level subjects in one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level subjects in 2 sittings, including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, and two other Science subjects (excluding Agricultural Science) from Chemistry, Physics and Geography.

UI JAMB Cut-Off Mark
Generally, For any candidate to be admitted into the University Of Ibadan (UI) for any course, the candidate must score 200 and above in jamb. That is to say that the University Of Ibadan (UI) JAMB Cut-Off mark is 200.
The mark covers every course at the university. Clearing it is what allows your application to move forward to the departmental stage.
UI Department Of Archaeology Departmental Cut-Off Mark
The UI Department of Archaeology Departmental Cut Off Mark is 200. That is to say that, Candidates who seek admission to the University Of Ibadan (UI) Department of Archaeology must score 200 and above in the school UTME Screening exercise.
The number is the same as the university cut-off, but it is earned in a separate exercise conducted by UI after JAMB results are released.
The Science Subjects Behind UI Archaeology
Candidates often approach Archaeology expecting an arts combination and find the opposite. Biology is compulsory in both lists, and the optional subjects are all sciences.
Check the Agricultural Science exclusion against your own results first, then count your credits against the sitting pattern that applies to you.
