This is to inform the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) that the admission requirements for the Department of Education Fine & Applied Arts have been published.
The sections below cover the O’Level credit passes, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, two Direct Entry routes with their waiver, and the JAMB score Benin requires for screening.
Fine Art is required at every stage. It is named among the five O’Level passes, heads the UTME combination and appears in both Direct Entry routes.
Benin also accepts TC II and NTC or NBC merit passes in place of O’Level credits, which widens the door for candidates from technical and teacher training colleges.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education Fine & Applied Arts include the following:
- Five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes or TC II or NTC/NBC merit, including Fine Art and English Language.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Fine Arts, one other Art subject, and any other subject
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education Fine and Applied Arts if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- NCE merit passes in Fine and Applied Arts. (Double Major).
- ‘A’ Level passes in Fine Arts and any other subject.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIBEN accepts:
- ‘A’ Level Fine and Applied Arts and any of English Language, Literature in English, Religious Studies, French or History/Government.
- Three (3) or two (2) ‘O’ Level credit passes, including Fine and Applied Arts and other subjects from English Language, Literature in English, Religious Studies, French, History /Government plus two (2) or three (3) NCE merit which should include Fine and Applied Arts.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.
Fine Art Is the Entry Ticket at UNIBEN
Whichever route you take, Fine Art has to be on your results. It is one of the five O’Level passes, it leads the UTME combination, and it must appear among the A Level or NCE subjects for Direct Entry.
The supporting subjects are drawn from a consistent arts group: English Language, Literature in English, Religious Studies, French and History or Government.
NCE candidates should read the waiver arithmetic. Three or two O’Level credits including Fine and Applied Arts pair with two or three NCE merit passes, which must also include the subject. UTME candidates need 200 in JAMB.
