Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Fisheries include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- Biology/Agricultural Science
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- English Language plus any other Science subject.
Four of the five credits are effectively named, with Biology and Agricultural Science counting as one slot between them. The fifth is open but must be a science subject.
That equivalence helps candidates from agricultural science backgrounds, who often sat Agricultural Science rather than Biology at senior secondary level.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Chemistry
- Biology/Agricultural Science and any other Science subject
The JAMB combination mirrors the credit list. English Language and Chemistry are fixed, Biology or Agricultural Science fills the third place, and the fourth is any other science paper.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Fisheries if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in any Chemistry, Biology, Botany, Zoology, Agricultural Science, Geography, Mathematics (pure & applied), Physics, Geology, and Economics.
- NCE Agriculture
The A Level list is unusually long, running from Chemistry and Biology through Geology, Geography and Economics. Any two of those subjects satisfy the requirement with no fixed pairing.
An NCE in Agriculture is listed as a separate route, which means college of education graduates in that field can apply without A Levels.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNICROSS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 140 or above in your JAMB result.
Where Agricultural Science Stands In for Biology at UNICROSS Fisheries
Chemistry and English Language are fixed at O Level and in JAMB, while Biology and Agricultural Science are accepted on equal terms at both stages. That pairing is the key feature of this course.
Mathematics is required as a credit but never appears on the JAMB form, so check it separately. If you hold an NCE in Agriculture, use Direct Entry. Otherwise clear 140 in JAMB for the 2026/2027 session.
