Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Mass Communication include the following:
- Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English Language, Literature in English, and Government, plus a pass in Mathematics.
Three credits are named and two are left open. Mathematics sits outside the five entirely, required only at ordinary pass level rather than counting towards the credit total.
Literature in English and Government are the two that matter most, since both carry across to the JAMB combination as well.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Literature in English
- Economics
- Government
The four JAMB papers are fixed with no alternatives. Economics appears here for the first time, even though it is not required as an O Level credit.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Mass Communication if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ levels pass in English Literature, Economics, or Government.
Direct Entry accepts any two of English Literature, Economics and Government, so the pairing is left to the candidate rather than prescribed by the department.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNICROSS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 140 or above in your JAMB result.
Why Economics Appears Only After O Level at UNICROSS Mass Communication
Literature in English and Government run through all three routes, joined by English Language at the first two stages. Those are the subjects to build your application around.
Economics is the one that enters late, compulsory in JAMB and accepted at Direct Entry but absent from the O Level credits. Mathematics needs only a pass. Clear 140 in JAMB for the 2026/2027 session.
