This is to inform the general public and all University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) aspirants that the Department of Mathematics With Statistics admission requirements have been published.
The requirements cover the O Level credits, the four JAMB papers, two Direct Entry routes and the minimum UTME score. Physics is optional at O Level but compulsory in JAMB, which reverses the usual pattern.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Mathematics with Statistics include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics and at least three(3) of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Additional/Further Mathematics.
English Language and Mathematics are compulsory, and three more credits come from a four subject pool. Further Mathematics counts there, which suits candidates with a strong quantitative background.
Because only one of the four may be dropped, most applicants will need Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Further Mathematics on the same result.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry or Biology
The JAMB combination fixes Physics and leaves one choice, between Chemistry and Biology. Further Mathematics has no place here despite being accepted as an O Level credit.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Mathematics with Statistics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry
- NCE passes at merit level in Maths and either Physics or Chemistry
Both Direct Entry routes ask for Mathematics plus either Physics or Chemistry. An NCE at merit is treated the same as two A Level passes, which helps serving teachers.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNICROSS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 140 or above in your JAMB result.
Physics Is Optional Until the JAMB Form at UNICROSS Mathematics with Statistics
Mathematics is compulsory at every stage, as the course title suggests. English Language joins it among the credits and on the JAMB form, and the two together account for half the requirement.
Physics is the subject that changes status. It is one of four options at O Level but a fixed JAMB paper and a named Direct Entry subject. Make sure you can sit it, then clear 140 for the 2026/2027 session.
