Physics is offered at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). This page sets out the O’Level credits for UTME candidates, the JAMB subject combination, the Direct Entry route and the JAMB score.
UNILAG is a federal government research university in Lagos State, in south western Nigeria. It remains among the most competitive institutions in the country for admissions, and holds one of the largest student populations of any Nigerian university.
Physics and Mathematics are compulsory at every stage here, carrying asterisks in the JAMB combination and named again for Direct Entry.
Chemistry and Biology move between the lists. The O’Level rule names Chemistry outright, while the UTME combination offers Chemistry or Biology as alternatives.

Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and any other Science subject from Further Mathematics and Biology or Agricultural Science.
Jamb Subject Combination
Subjects marked with an asterisk are compulsory. Where two subjects are offered as alternatives, choose one of them.
English Language(*), Physics(*), Mathematics(*), and Chemistry or Biology.
Direct Entry Requirement for Physics
- NCE/Two ‘A’ level passes in Physics and Mathematics or Chemistry.
JAMB Score
For any candidate to be admitted to any Department in the University of Lagos, the Candidate must score 200 and above in JAMB.
Chemistry or Biology, and the Fifth Credit, at UNILAG Physics
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and one further science from Further Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science.
Chemistry is compulsory there, which matters because the UTME combination treats it as interchangeable with Biology.
A candidate who sits Biology rather than Chemistry at UTME therefore still needs the Chemistry credit at O’Level.
Direct Entry accepts an NCE or two A level passes in Physics and either Mathematics or Chemistry, which keeps the same science core.
The JAMB score for any UNILAG department is 200 and above. Confirm your Physics and Mathematics credits first, since every route on this page rests on both.
