Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Veterinary Medicine include the following:
Five (5) O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
All five credits are specified by name. English Language and Mathematics cover the general requirement, and Biology, Physics and Chemistry supply the science base the course is built on. None of the five may be substituted.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language.
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
The JAMB combination simply repeats four of those five subjects, dropping only Mathematics. Candidates sometimes assume Mathematics can replace one of the sciences at UTME, but the department does not allow it.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Veterinary Medicine if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- A’ level passes in Chemistry, Biology/Zoology, Physics, or Mathematics.
Direct Entry is the one place where the list loosens. Mathematics reappears as an acceptable subject, and Zoology is recognised alongside Biology, which helps candidates whose advanced study took them towards animal science.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum of 160 or above score in your JAMB result.
Five Named Credits and No Substitutions at UNN
Veterinary Medicine is among the most prescriptive courses UNN lists. English Language, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are all required at O Level, and the first four of those make up the entire JAMB combination.
Only the Direct Entry route offers any variation, where Zoology is accepted for Biology and Mathematics returns to the list. Otherwise, secure all five credits and score at least 160 in JAMB to reach screening.
