This is to inform the general public and all Adeyemi College of Education (ACEONDO) aspirants that the Department of Education & History admission requirements have been published.
History is required on every route into this department, and English Language sits beside it at both the Ordinary Level and JAMB stages.
The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.
What makes this department unusual is the length of its JAMB option list. Eight entries are offered, covering religious studies, three Nigerian and European languages, and several social sciences.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & History include the following: Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- History and three (3) relevant Arts subjects
Two subjects are named and the other three must be relevant Arts subjects, so a candidate needs a genuinely Arts based set of results.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- History and any other two (2) subjects from below:
- Christian Religious Studies/Islamic Studies
- Literature in English
- French
- Yoruba
- Geography/Physics
- Economics
- Government
- Hausa
English Language and History are fixed, and the last two papers are drawn from that list of eight. Geography and Physics are paired, as are Christian Religious Studies and Islamic Studies.
Because Physics appears among the options, a candidate from a science background is not automatically shut out of the JAMB combination.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and History if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require:
- Two (2) NCE merit/’A’ Level passes in History and one (1) other relevant Arts subject
NCE merit and Advanced Level passes count equally on that route, and History must be one of the two qualifications in either case.

At Ordinary Level the three further credits must be relevant Arts subjects, and the JAMB score itself has to reach 120 for the screening exercise.
