This article is designed to help students who wish to study English in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at Adamawa State University.
It is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in ADSU to carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.
This page covers three things for the English programme, namely the WAEC or NECO subject combination, the JAMB UTME papers, and the Direct Entry route for candidates who are not using UTME. The score needed for screening is set at university level.

JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into ADSU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Mathematics Inside the ADSU English Requirements
English is an Arts programme, yet the O’level line still asks for a credit in Mathematics. Five SSCE credits are needed covering Mathematics, English Language and three other Arts subjects, so Mathematics takes one of the five places.
That requirement disappears at the next stage. The UTME combination is English Language, Literature in English and two other Arts subjects, with no Mathematics paper involved.
Literature in English is the subject that carries real weight. It is named at UTME and again at Direct Entry, where two A’level or NCE passes are required and Literature in English must be one of them.
The score to clear is 180 and above in your JAMB result for the 2026/2027 session. Check that figure first, then confirm your Mathematics credit before assuming an Arts combination alone will do.
