Pure and Applied Physics is taught under the Faculty of Science at Adamawa State University. Physics and Mathematics are fixed from the UTME stage onwards.
The O’Level line asks for the full science set and offers Biology or Agricultural Science as the closing alternative. Agricultural Science does not carry forward beyond that point.

WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Pure and Applied Physics is Five (5) SSCE credits in Mathematics, Chemistry, English Language, Physics, Biology, or Agricultural Science.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Pure and Applied Physics under the Faculty of Science at ADSU include;
Physics, Mathematics, and either Biology or Chemistry.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Pure and Applied Physics if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
Two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes, including Physics and one (1) another Science subject.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into ADSU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
The Science Set Narrows After O Level at ADSU Pure and Applied Physics
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credits in Mathematics, Chemistry, English Language, Physics, and Biology or Agricultural Science. Only the final pair offers a choice.
Chemistry is compulsory at that stage and then becomes an alternative to Biology at UTME. A candidate needs the credit either way.
The UTME combination keeps English Language compulsory, fixes Physics and Mathematics, and allows either Biology or Chemistry in the third place.
Direct Entry is the most open of the three, asking only for two ‘A’ Level or NCE passes including Physics and one other science subject.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at ADSU and applies whichever route a candidate uses.
