The National University Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) for 11 programs in the institution.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has released the outcomes of the January 2025 Accreditation exercise, which evaluated eleven (11) Departments that participated in the 2022 accreditation process at the University.
The report, signed by the Director of Accreditation, Dr. Maryam Sali, was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Greg Nwakoby.
According to the Commission, all eleven Departments that partook in the exercise successfully met the required standards and were consequently granted “Full Accreditation Status.”
The accredited Departments include
- Fisheries and Aquaculture,
- Computer Science,
- Library and Information Science,
- Educational Management
- Social Studies,
- Food Science and Technology,
- Pharmacy
- Mathematics
- Criminology and Security Studies
- Economics and Political Science
The NUC has stipulated that this “Full Accreditation Status” is valid for five years in accordance with the Commission’s statutory mandate.
In response to this positive development, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nwakoby expressed the University Management’s excitement upon receiving the Commission’s report.
He specifically commended the Heads of Department and Deans of Faculty for their diligence in upholding ethical standards in administering various programs, highlighting the importance of ethical conduct as a crucial aspect of the Nigerian Universities Commission’s criteria.
Prof. Nwakoby affirmed the university’s commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring no department under its leadership would fail accreditation.
