FCE KANO has set out its cut-off mark position for 2026/2027 admissions. Anyone who selected the school on JAMB should treat this as the first checkpoint before any further paperwork or departmental screening begins.
Here’s what that means in practice, and what the old UTME benchmark looked like before the rule changed. Skipping or rushing this part of the process is one of the more common reasons admission gets delayed.
NCE Applicants No Longer Need a UTME Cut-off Mark
From the 2026/2027 admission cycle, candidates applying for NCE programmes, including at FCE Kano, with a minimum of four credit passes at SSCE/O’Level (including English and Mathematics where expected) are exempted from sitting the UTME entirely.
This was confirmed at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting in Abuja and reported by multiple outlets, including the Guardian, Vanguard, and Businessday.
You still have to register with JAMB though. Eligible applicants go through an Institutional Professional Registration Centre (IPRC) domiciled in a college of education, or any JAMB Professional Registration Centre (PRC), for screening, verification, and issuance of an admission letter via CAPS.
So there’s no score to chase here anymore, your O’Level results and IPRC registration do the work that a UTME score used to do.
This is a genuinely new arrangement for the 2026/2027 cycle. If you wrote UTME anyway or already have a score, it won’t hurt your application, but it isn’t the gatekeeper it once was for NCE admission at FCE Kano.
The Old UTME Benchmark (For Context)
Before this policy shift, FCE Kano’s internal requirement, like most federal colleges of education, had been a JAMB UTME score of 100 and above, the standard national floor JAMB set for colleges of education in earlier cycles. That figure applied across departments rather than varying by course.
We’re keeping it here as background only, since it’s no longer the operative requirement for NCE candidates going forward.
Federal College of Education, Kano, is located in Kano City, Kano State, and accepts both first and second-choice applicants. For the SSCE requirement, you’ll still need at least 5 credits, including English and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings, relevant to the course you’re applying for.
Because this is a fresh policy, it’s worth confirming directly with FCE Kano’s admissions office or JAMB’s portal before you finalize your application, especially if your department has specific O’Level subject requirements.
