History and International Studies is taught under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at Federal University Gashua. History or Government is required on all three routes.
Mathematics and Geography are both named at O’Level and then vanish from the later stages. Neither appears in the UTME combination or the Direct Entry condition.

WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study History and International Studies is Five (5) SSCE credits in Mathematics, Geography, English Language, History/Government, and two other Arts subjects.

Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study History & International Studies if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
Two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes, including History/Government and one (1) other Arts subject.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUGASHUA for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Mathematics and Geography Count Once at FUGASHUA History and International Studies
The O’Level line names Mathematics, Geography, English Language, History or Government, and two other Arts subjects against a stated five credits. Confirm the total with the department.
Geography being compulsory at that stage is unusual for a history course, and Mathematics is a condition many arts candidates do not expect.
The UTME combination is far simpler. English Language is compulsory, History or Government is fixed, and the two remaining papers are Arts subjects.
Direct Entry follows the same shape, asking for two ‘A’ Level or NCE passes including History or Government and one other Arts subject.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at FUGASHUA and applies whichever route a candidate uses.
