Physics is taught under the Faculty of Sciences at Federal University Gashua (FUGASHUA). Further Mathematics is accepted as a fifth O’Level credit, which rewards candidates who sat it.
Physics itself is the only paper required without alternative at every stage. Chemistry and Mathematics each become optional at one point or another.
Confirm that Physics appears on the current FUGASHUA course list and that your JAMB registration records it correctly before you sit the examination.

WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Physics is Five (5) SSCE credits in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and any other Science subject from Further Mathematics and Biology or Agricultural Science.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Physics at FUGASHUA include Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or Biology.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Physics if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes in Physics and Mathematics or Chemistry.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUGASHUA for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Only Physics Is Unavoidable at FUGASHUA
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credits in English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, plus one more from Further Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science.
That fifth slot is the useful part. Further Mathematics counting towards it is unusual, and Agricultural Science gives candidates from rural secondary schools a workable option.
The UTME combination keeps English Language compulsory, fixes Physics and Mathematics, and allows either Chemistry or Biology in the third place.
Direct Entry asks for two ‘A’ Level or NCE passes in Physics and either Mathematics or Chemistry, so even Mathematics has an alternative at that level.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at FUGASHUA and applies whichever route a candidate uses.
