The requirements below cover three routes and one score. They are the WAEC or NECO subject combination, the four JAMB UTME papers, the Direct Entry option for candidates not sitting UTME, and the minimum JAMB result the university expects.

About Federal University of Technology

The Federal University of Technology (FUTA) is located in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria.

It was established in 1981 as part of a motivated effort on the part of the Federal government of Nigeria to create specialized universities that produce graduates grounded in both the theoretical and practical aspects of technology.

Admission Requirements for Mining Engineering

WAEC/NECO Subject Combination

The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Mining Engineering is Five (5) SSCE credits in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language, and any other Science subjects.

JAMB Subject Combination

In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.

Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Mining Engineering at FUTA include Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.

Direct Entry Requirement

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Mining Engineering if you do not intend to use UTME.

You require two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes in Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTA for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.

A Science Only Path Into FUTA Mining Engineering

Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry appear on all three lists for this course. They are named among the five O’level credits, they fill the UTME papers beside English Language, and the two A’level or NCE passes are drawn from the same three.

Only the fifth O’level credit is left open, and even that must be another science subject. No arts or commercial paper is recognised anywhere on this page.

Direct Entry is slightly more forgiving in one respect. Because the two passes come from a choice of three subjects, a candidate without A’level Chemistry can still qualify using Mathematics and Physics.

UTME candidates need a minimum of 180 and above in their JAMB result for the 2026/2027 session. Confirm that figure, then check all three sciences are present on your O’level result sheet.
