This article is designed to help students who wish to study Statistics under the Faculty of Science at the Federal University of Technology (FUTA).
It is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in FUTA to carefully confirm and see if the course they selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.
The Statistics requirements are set out below in three parts, namely the WAEC or NECO subject combination, the four JAMB UTME papers, and the Direct Entry route, followed by the minimum JAMB score the university expects.

Admission Requirements for Statistics
WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Statistics is Five (5) SSCE credits in Mathematics, English Language, and at least three subjects from Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Further Mathematics, and Geography.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Statistics at FUTA include Mathematics and any two of Chemistry, Physics, and Economics.

Statistics as a Subject in Its Own Right at FUTA
Few departments name Statistics as an O’level subject, but this one does. It appears in the optional group alongside Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Further Mathematics and Geography, and again as an accepted A’level subject at Direct Entry.
Mathematics is the subject you cannot avoid. It is required among the five O’level credits, it is fixed at UTME, and it stands as the alternative to Statistics at Direct Entry.
Economics in the UTME list is worth noticing too, since it means a commercial candidate with strong Mathematics can build a valid combination here without taking two laboratory sciences.
The score to clear is a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result for the 2026/2027 session. Confirm your Mathematics credit first, then pick two of Chemistry, Physics and Economics for JAMB.
