Chemistry at the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA) asks for all five science credits at O’Level but only four papers in JAMB, which means one of your science subjects is set aside at the UTME stage.
Physics, Biology and Mathematics are all compulsory credits on the result slip. In the UTME you keep two of those three alongside English Language and Chemistry, and the department leaves the choice to you.
Direct Entry runs on a different footing again, taking A’Level passes or an ND or NCE. The sections below cover each route and the JAMB score FUTMINNA works with for the 2026/2027 session.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Chemistry include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
All five subjects are named and none of them is optional. There is no Biology or Agricultural Science substitution offered here, so Biology itself has to appear on the result.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Chemistry and two subjects from below:
- Physics
- Biology
- Mathematics
English Language and Chemistry are compulsory, and the remaining two papers come from Physics, Biology and Mathematics. A candidate weak in one of those three can simply leave it out of the registration.

Direct Entry Requirement
You need to fulfill these conditions to gain Direct Entry admission to study Chemistry if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any one (1) in Physics, Mathematics, or Biology.
- ND/NCE with good grades in relevant ‘O’ level subjects.
The two bullets are alternatives. Chemistry is compulsory in the A’Level route and paired with one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology, while the second route rests on an ND or NCE supported by good O’Level grades.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTMINNA for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.
That 180 is the eligibility mark for the screening rather than for admission itself. Places are decided from how candidates perform in the screening exercise.

One Science Drops Away in JAMB for FUTMINNA Chemistry
The gap between the two lists is the thing to notice. Physics, Biology and Mathematics are all required as O’Level credits, but only two of the three are carried into the UTME registration.
So the result slip is the harder test. Five credits covering English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, two of those sciences repeated in JAMB, and 180 in the UTME to reach the FUTMINNA screening.
