Computer Engineering at the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA) sets one requirement that catches candidates out. Further Mathematics is named among the five O’Level credits, not treated as an optional extra.

That single subject is the difference between this department and most of the engineering programmes beside it. A candidate whose school did not offer Further Mathematics has no alternative listed anywhere on the page.
The UTME combination is the ordinary engineering four, and Direct Entry asks for three A’Level passes. Both are set out below with the JAMB score FUTMINNA works with for the 2026/2027 session.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Computer Engineering include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- Further Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Physics
- English Language
All five are compulsory, and Mathematics and Further Mathematics are counted as two separate credits rather than one. No substitution is offered for either of them.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
Further Mathematics drops out at this stage. The UTME asks for the standard engineering four, so the extra credit you needed on the result slip is not written again in JAMB.

Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Computer Engineering if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Three (3) ‘A’ level passes in Pure Mathematics or Pure and Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics.
Three passes are required rather than the usual two, which makes this one of the stricter Direct Entry routes at the university. The only flexibility is in the mathematics paper, where Pure Mathematics and Pure and Applied Mathematics are both accepted.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTMINNA for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.
Read 180 as the threshold for being screened rather than for being admitted. The places are decided from the screening exercise that follows it.

Further Mathematics Is a Named Credit for FUTMINNA Computer Engineering
Check your result slip for Further Mathematics before anything else. It sits in the five required O’Level credits for this department alongside Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and English Language, and nothing on the page offers a way round it.
Past that point the requirements are conventional. Four JAMB papers covering English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, three A’Level passes for Direct Entry candidates, and 180 in the UTME to reach the FUTMINNA screening.
