The Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA) has published the entry requirements for its Department of Physics, covering the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME combination and the Direct Entry route into the programme.
Physics and Mathematics are fixed in both the O’Level and the UTME lists, and both appear again among the subjects accepted for Direct Entry. Nothing on this page allows either of them to be dropped.
Chemistry behaves differently. It is a compulsory O’Level credit, but in the UTME it shares a slot with Biology, so candidates may write either one as their fourth subject.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Physics include the following:
- Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and any other Science subject from Further Mathematics and Biology or Agricultural Science
Four of the five credits are named outright. The fifth is drawn from a short science list of Further Mathematics, Biology and Agricultural Science, so even that slot is not a free choice.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Chemistry or Biology
Candidates who take Biology as their fifth O’Level credit can carry it straight into the UTME as the fourth subject. Those who prefer Further Mathematics at O’Level will need to write Chemistry or Biology in JAMB instead.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Physics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- NCE/Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Physics, Mathematics, or Chemistry.

Further Mathematics Can Supply the Fifth Credit for FUTMINNA Physics
The fifth O’Level credit is the one decision this department leaves you, and the choice sits between Further Mathematics, Biology and Agricultural Science. Biology is the option that also counts in the UTME.
Direct Entry candidates come in on an NCE or two A Level passes in Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry. Whichever route applies to you, a JAMB score of 180 or above is required before screening.
