Sociology is taught under the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences at Kaduna State University (KASU). Government or History is the single named subject beyond English Language at the O’Level stage.
Mathematics is handled separately and only at pass level. It does not count towards the five credits, which is the distinction candidates most often misread on this page.
Confirm that Sociology appears on the current KASU course list and that your JAMB registration records it correctly before you sit the examination. A course entered in error cannot be assessed against these conditions.

Admission Requirements for Sociology
WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Sociology is Five (5) SSCE credits in Government or History, English Language, and three (3) other subjects. A pass in Mathematics is required.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Sociology at KASU include Three (3) Social Science or Arts subjects.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Sociology if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes in Government or History
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into KASU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Government or History Opens KASU Sociology
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credits in Government or History, English Language, and three other subjects. Those three carry no stated restriction, which is unusually generous.
A pass in Mathematics is required alongside them. Because it is a pass and not a credit, a weaker Mathematics result does not rule a candidate out.
The UTME combination is the most open section here. English Language is compulsory and the three accompanying papers may be any Social Science or Arts subjects.
Direct Entry narrows sharply. Two ‘A’ Level or NCE passes are required in Government or History, with no other subject accepted in their place.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at KASU. With the subject conditions this broad, the score is what separates applicants.
