Only two things are specified on each subject list. English Language is compulsory and one Arts subject must be present, after which candidates are free to choose from Arts, Social Sciences or Science.

The cut off marks are where this course tightens. The department sets its screening mark at 200, matching the university JAMB score exactly, so there is no easier departmental route in.

UI Department Of Philosophy Admission Requirements

O’level Subject Combinations

Candidates who wish to study Philosophy at the University Of Ibadan (UI) must possess Five ‘O’ level subjects in one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level subjects in two sittings, including English Language, one Arts subject, and any other three or four subjects from Arts, Social Sciences or Science.

The number of free slots follows the sitting rule. A candidate presenting five subjects from one sitting fills three freely, while one presenting six across two sittings fills four.

JAMB UTME Subject Combination

Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.

English Language, one Arts subject, and any other two subjects from Arts, Social Sciences, or Science.

The structure is identical to the Ordinary Level rule, just shorter. English Language and one Arts subject are fixed, and the last two papers are open.

UI JAMB Cut-Off Mark

Generally, For any candidate to be admitted into the University Of Ibadan (UI) for any course, the candidate must score 200 and above in JAMB. That is to say that the University Of Ibadan (UI) JAMB Cut-Off mark is 200.

UI Department Of Philosophy Departmental Cut-Off Mark

The UI Department of Philosophy Departmental Cut Off Mark is 200. That is to say that, Candidates who seek admission to the University Of Ibadan (UI) Department of Philosophy must score 200 and above in the school UTME Screening exercise.

Both figures read 200 but they come from different examinations. One is the JAMB score and the other is earned in the school screening exercise, so the standard has to be met twice.

One Arts Subject Is All UI Philosophy Requires

This is among the most open subject requirements at the university. Beyond English Language and a single Arts subject, every remaining slot at both Ordinary Level and JAMB may be filled from any of the three subject groups.

Science and commercial candidates are therefore not shut out, provided they hold at least one Arts credit and can offer one Arts paper in JAMB.

The marks are the real filter. A candidate should plan for 200 in JAMB and another 200 in the school screening exercise before counting on a place in this department.
