This is to inform the general public and all prospective students of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) that the Department of Education & English Language & Literature Admission requirements has been published.
This post sets out the O Level credits, two Direct Entry routes and the minimum JAMB score. Literature in English is named at both stages and is the subject the department is built around.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & English Language & Literature include the following:
- Five SSCE credit passes to include English Language and Literature in English plus three other Arts or Social Science subjects.
Two credits are named and the other three must come from the Arts or Social Sciences. A science or technical paper will not count towards them, however strong the grade.
Literature in English is the requirement that catches people out, since many candidates assume a strong English Language credit is enough on its own.
Candidates who sat English Language without Literature in English will need to address that before applying, as no alternative is offered.
Direct Entry Requirement
You need to fulfill these conditions to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and English Language and Literature if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant teaching subjects, including Literature in English.
- NCE with credit or merit passes in two relevant subjects
Direct Entry keeps Literature in English on the A Level route, pairing it with another relevant teaching subject. The NCE route asks for credit or merit passes in two relevant subjects without naming them.
The phrase teaching subjects is worth noting, since this is an education programme and the department expects your passes to match what you intend to teach.
