This article is designed to help students who wish to study Animal Science under the Faculty of Agriculture at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
Confirm that Animal Science is still listed at OAU before you register for JAMB. The waiver at the foot of this post removes three subjects that the Direct Entry list appears to allow.
Obafemi Awolowo University offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in specialization spanning the humanities, the arts, the natural sciences, the social sciences, the medical sciences, engineering, and technology.
The university has 13 faculties and two colleges, the Postgraduate College and the College of Health Sciences, administered in more than 60 departments. It was previously associated with Loma Linda University in California, USA.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Animal Science; You require;
Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology/Agric Science, and one in Physics, Geography, or Economics.
Four places are effectively fixed, with Biology and Agricultural Science counting as one. The fifth is chosen from Physics, Geography and Economics.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Animal Science under the Faculty of Agriculture at OAU include;
Chemistry, Biology/Agriculture, and Mathematics/Physics.
The JAMB combination is tighter. Chemistry is fixed, Biology or Agriculture takes the third place, and the fourth is Mathematics or Physics beside the compulsory English Language.
Geography and Economics count towards the credits but have no place on the form, so the two lists are not interchangeable.
Direct Entry Requirements
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Animal Science if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two ‘A’ level passes or equivalent in Chemistry and one in Biology/Botany/Zoology/Agric Science/Geography/Geology/Mathematics/ Economics.

- OAU accepts HND at (Upper Credit) into the 200 level. OAU does not accept Geography, Geology, and Economics.
This waiver does two things. It opens a diploma route, admitting HND holders at upper credit directly into 200 level, and it narrows the A Level list above it.
Geography, Geology and Economics are explicitly ruled out, which leaves Chemistry paired with Biology, Botany, Zoology, Agricultural Science or Mathematics.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into OAU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
The Subjects OAU Animal Science Explicitly Rules Out
Chemistry runs through every route, joined by Biology or Agricultural Science at O Level and in JAMB. Those two are the subjects to secure first.
The waiver matters more than the general list, since it rules out Geography, Geology and Economics at Direct Entry while opening a 200 level route for HND holders at upper credit. OAU also asks for 200 or above in JAMB for the 2026/2027 session.
