This is to inform the general public and all prospective students of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) that the Department of Education & History Admission requirements has been published.
The requirements cover the O Level credits, the four JAMB papers, the Direct Entry conditions and the minimum score. History is compulsory at every stage without exception.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & History include the following:
- Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, History, and three (3) relevant Arts subjects.
English Language and History are the two named credits, and all three remaining places must be filled with Arts subjects. A science or commercial paper will not count towards them.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- History and any other two (2) subjects chosen from Christian Religious Studies/Islamic Studies, Literature in English, French, Yoruba, Geography/Physics, Economics, Government, and Hausa.
The JAMB list is wider than the credit requirement. History joins the compulsory English Language, and the other two papers come from a named group of eight.
Economics, Geography and Physics appear there even though none of them would satisfy the Arts condition at O Level, so the two lists are not interchangeable.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and History if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) NCE merit/’A’ Level passes in History and one (1) other relevant Arts subject.
Direct Entry returns to the Arts restriction, pairing History with one further Arts subject. An NCE at merit is accepted on the same terms as A Level passes.

Why the JAMB List Is Wider Than the Credits at UNIABUJA Education and History
History appears in the credits, on the JAMB form and among the Direct Entry passes, with English Language beside it at the first two stages.
The difference lies in the supporting subjects. O Level and Direct Entry both insist on Arts papers, while JAMB also accepts Economics, Geography and Physics. Register accordingly and clear 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
