The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has published the entry requirements for its Department of Actuarial Science, covering the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME combination, Direct Entry and the JAMB score needed for screening.

English Language, Mathematics and Economics are the three named subjects in both the O’Level and UTME lists, and Economics is also the single subject specified for Direct Entry candidates.
Two waiver blocks appear further down the page, but neither of them refers to Actuarial Science. They set out remarks for Insurance, Marketing and Public Administration, which share this faculty.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Actuarial Science include five SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Economics and two other relevant subjects
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIBEN accepts;
- For Insurance ‘O’ Level credit pass in Further Mathematics is an advantage.
- For Marketing, five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and two (2) other subjects at not more than two (2) sitting.
Both remarks name a department other than this one. They are reproduced as published because they sit in the same faculty entry, but neither changes what Actuarial Science asks of you at O’Level.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics, Economics, and any other Social Science subject.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIBEN for Public Administration requires Government/History, one Social Science subject, and any other subject.
This remark also belongs to a different department. Actuarial Science candidates should follow the UTME list above it, which names English Language, Mathematics, Economics and one further Social Science subject.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Actuarial Science if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two ‘A’ level passes, including Economics.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
The Waiver Notes Belong to Other Departments, Not UNIBEN Actuarial Science
The two special consideration blocks on this page cover Insurance, Marketing and Public Administration. Reading them as Actuarial Science requirements is the easiest mistake to make here, and it would send you into JAMB with the wrong subjects.
What this department actually asks is steady throughout: English Language, Mathematics and Economics, plus two further credits and one more Social Science subject in the UTME. Direct Entry needs two A Level passes including Economics.
Keep the 200 JAMB threshold in mind as you plan, because UNIBEN sets it higher than many federal universities and it applies before any departmental screening takes place.
