The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has published the entry requirements for its Department of Civil Engineering, covering the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME combination, two Direct Entry routes and the JAMB score needed for screening.
Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language make up four of the five O’Level credits and all four of the UTME subjects. The fifth credit must be a further science, so the whole list stays within science and mathematics.
Before any of that matters, there is the score. UNIBEN requires 200 or above in JAMB to be eligible for screening, which is higher than the 180 used by many other federal universities.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Civil Engineering include the following:
- Five SSCE credit passes to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language, and one Science Subject
Four subjects are named and the fifth is restricted to the sciences, so no arts or commercial credit will count towards this requirement. Biology and Further Mathematics are the usual choices for that last slot.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
The UTME list offers no alternatives. These four subjects are the same four named in the O’Level requirement, which keeps your revision for both stages on exactly the same ground.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Civil Engineering if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- ‘A’ level passes in Physics and Mathematics.
- ND/HND (Upper credit) at appropriate levels.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.
A 200 JAMB Score Comes Before the Subject List at UNIBEN Civil Engineering
The subject requirements for this department are straightforward once you reach the screening stage. What stops most candidates earlier is the score, because UNIBEN sets its threshold at 200 rather than 180.
Beyond that, the combination is uniform. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language are required at O’Level and written again in JAMB, with a fifth science credit completing the O’Level five.
Direct Entry candidates come in on A Level passes in Physics and Mathematics, or on an ND or HND at upper credit at the appropriate level.
