The University of Benin has published the admission requirements for its Department of Education and Religious Studies. The page covers the O’level subject combination, the four papers written at JAMB UTME, the Direct Entry route, and the score needed to reach screening.
The O’level demand can be met two ways. Five credit passes at ordinary level will do, and so will a TC II merit in five subjects, provided English Language and Religious Studies are among them.
Three further Arts subjects complete that list, which keeps the course firmly within the humanities. Candidates from a science background would need to check their Arts credits carefully before applying here.
This is to inform the general public and all aspiring University of Benin (UNIBEN) students that the admission requirements for the Department of Education & Religious Studies have been published.

The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.

JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.
Religious Studies at Every Stage of the UNIBEN Education Route
One subject runs through all three entry routes. Religious Studies is named among the O’level credits, named again among the four UTME papers, and named a third time as one of the two A’level passes or NCE merits at Direct Entry.
Nothing on this page offers a substitute for it, so a candidate without Religious Studies has no published way into the department. Everything else in the combination is flexible by comparison.
Arts subjects fill the remaining space. Three of them are needed at O’level beside English Language and Religious Studies, one more sits beside Religious Studies at Direct Entry, and the UTME combination leaves its fourth paper entirely open.
The score requirement is the same as elsewhere in the university. A JAMB result of 200 or above makes you eligible for the 2026/2027 screening, and the subject checks follow from there.
