The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has published the entry requirements for its Department of Industrial Mathematics, covering the O’Level credits, a waiver remark, the JAMB UTME combination and two Direct Entry routes.

English Language and Mathematics are the only subjects required without exception. Every other part of this page is written as a choice from a set, which gives candidates more room than most science departments allow.
Physics is the subject to look at twice. The general O’Level line names it outright, while the UNIBEN waiver below treats it as one of four subjects you may choose from.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited faculties and departments in the university.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Industrial Mathematics include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and two (2) other Science subjects
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIBEN accepts ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and any three (3) of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, or Geography.
This waiver and the general O’Level line above do not agree. The general line makes Physics compulsory and asks for two further sciences, while the waiver drops that requirement and admits Geography into the pool.
Both are reproduced exactly as published. The waiver is the UNIBEN-specific remark for this programme, so it is the one that governs your three flexible credits where the two statements differ.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Mathematics and any two (2) of Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Biology, and Agricultural Science
Economics appears here but in neither O’Level statement, while Geography appears in the waiver but not in the UTME. Choose subjects that sit in both lists if you want one body of revision to serve both stages.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Industrial Mathematics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes from Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or Chemistry.
- NCE merit in relevant subjects.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
The UNIBEN Waiver Makes Physics Optional in Industrial Mathematics
Candidates reading only the general O’Level line would assume Physics is unavoidable. Under the UNIBEN waiver it is not, because any three of Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and Geography will complete the five credits.
What never moves is the pairing of English Language and Mathematics, which holds across the O’Level line, the waiver and the UTME combination.
Direct Entry accepts two A Level passes from Mathematics, Physics, Economics or Chemistry, or an NCE merit in relevant subjects. UTME candidates need 200 or above in JAMB to reach screening.
