The University of Benin offers Industrial Technical Education under its Faculty of Education, and this page sets out the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME combination, four Direct Entry routes and the JAMB score required for screening.
Physics and Mathematics run through the whole page, but not in the same way at each stage. The O’Level list accepts either one, while the UTME combination requires both.
Direct Entry is the other feature worth noting. Four separate routes are listed, covering A Level passes, a National Diploma, City and Guilds with a technical certificate, and an NCE in Technical Education.

O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Industrial Technical Education;
You require;
Five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include Physics or Mathematics.
Only one subject is named, and even that is offered as a choice between two. The remaining four credits are left entirely open, which makes this one of the least restrictive O’Level lists at UNIBEN.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Industrial Technical Education under the Faculty of Education at UNIBEN include;
Mathematics, Physics, and one (1) another Science subject
Here both Physics and Mathematics are required, so the choice the O’Level list allows disappears. Plan on holding credits in both, even though only one is strictly needed among your five.
Direct Entry Requirements
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Industrial Technical Education if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics and Mathematics.
- ND lower credit in Civil Engineering, Production/Electrical Engineering.
- Final City and Guilds or its equivalent plus National Technical Certificate.
- NCE credit in Technical Education plus ‘O’ Level credit passes in Physics or Mathematics
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
O’Level Accepts Either Physics or Mathematics, but JAMB Wants Both at UNIBEN Industrial Technical Education
That difference is the one thing to get right before registering. A candidate who holds only Mathematics at credit level meets the O’Level requirement yet still has to write Physics in the UTME.
Beyond those two subjects the O’Level list is wide open, with four of the five credits unspecified, and the UTME adds only one further science alongside the compulsory English Language.
Technical college leavers have four Direct Entry routes to consider instead. UTME candidates need 200 or above in JAMB to be eligible for the UNIBEN screening.
