Mathematics then disappears from the UTME combination, which takes English Language with the three sciences. It reappears at Direct Entry, where it is one of four subjects an A Level pass may come from.

The University has a diverse student population with students from different parts of the country and age brackets. The University of Benin courses cut across various levels in agriculture, science, etc.

University of Benin admission is extremely competitive as many candidates apply for admission into the university annually. University of Benin’s school fees are also very affordable, and it provides its students with facilities and infrastructure. They have good hostels, roads, electricity, etc.

Entry Requirements

O’Level Subject Combination

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Nursing/Nursing Science include the following:

  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Physics
  • English Language

There is no flexible credit in this list, so a weak grade in any one of the five cannot be offset by a strong result elsewhere. Nursing is among the most competitive programmes at UNIBEN.

JAMB UTME Subject Combination

Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.

  • English Language
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology

These four are fixed, with Mathematics the only O’Level subject left out. You still need the Mathematics credit, so dropping it in JAMB does not remove it from your preparation.

Direct Entry Requirement

These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Nursing / Nursing Science if you don’t intend to use UTME.

  • ‘A’ Level passes in any two (2) of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

Direct Entry is the one route where Mathematics can earn you a place directly, since it stands alongside the three sciences as an acceptable A Level subject.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.

Mathematics Counts Everywhere Except the UTME at UNIBEN Nursing Science

It is a required O’Level credit and an accepted Direct Entry A Level subject, yet it is absent from the four subjects written in JAMB. That pattern is easy to misread in either direction.

Treat the O’Level list as the binding one. All five subjects are named, none can be substituted, and the UTME simply drops one of them rather than loosening the requirement.

Direct Entry candidates need A Level passes in any two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, and every applicant needs 200 or above in JAMB before screening.
