The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has published the entry requirements for its Department of Physical Education, covering the O’Level credits, two waiver remarks, the JAMB UTME combination and five Direct Entry routes.
The O’Level section carries two separate statements, and they do not name the same second subject. One asks for Biology or its equivalent, the other for Mathematics, alongside English Language in both cases.
The UNIBEN waiver immediately below settles the point, asking for English Language and one Science subject. Direct Entry is unusually broad, with five routes including one for registered nurses.

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Physical Education include the following:
- Five (5) SSCE credit passes/TC II merit passes, including English Language, Biology, or its equivalent.
- Five (5) SSCE credit passes /TC II merit passes to include English Language and Mathematics.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIBEN requires five (5) O’ Level credits pass/TC II merit, including English Language and one (1) Science subject.
The two bullets above disagree, one naming Biology or its equivalent and the other Mathematics. Both are reproduced exactly as the department published them.
This waiver is the UNIBEN-specific remark for the programme, so it is the one that governs. It asks for English Language and one Science subject, which the Biology bullet satisfies.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Biology and any two (2) relevant subjects
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIBEN requires one (1) Science subject and two (2) other Science or Social Science subjects
This second remark defines what the UTME list means by relevant subjects. Biology serves as the science subject, and the two that follow may come from either the sciences or the social sciences.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Physical Education if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in any of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.
- NCE merit in Physical Education and credit in Arithmetical process or Mathematics.
- Diploma in Health Education, Environmental Sanitation, Physical Education, Social Work, or Health Administration with overall grades of merit plus three (3) ‘O’ Level credit passes/TC II merit, which should include English Language.
- NCE in Biology, Health Education, and Integrated Science with a passing grade plus two (2) ‘O’ Level credit passes/TC II merit passes.
- Registered Nurse plus five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
The Waiver Settles the Biology Versus Mathematics Question at UNIBEN Physical Education
Two O’Level statements sit side by side on this page and name different second subjects. The UNIBEN waiver resolves the disagreement by asking for English Language and one Science subject.
Biology is the practical choice, since it is also the named science in the UTME combination and appears among the A Level subjects accepted for Direct Entry.
