The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has published the entry requirements for its Department of Physics, covering the O’Level credits, a waiver remark, the JAMB UTME combination and Direct Entry.

English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are required as O’Level credits under both statements on this page. The two differ only in what may fill the fifth place.
The general line names Further Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, while the UNIBEN waiver accepts any other Science subject. The waiver is the one written for this university.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Physics include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and any other Science subject from Further Mathematics and Biology or Agricultural Science
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIBEN requires ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics and any other Science subject in addition to English Language, Physics, and Chemistry.
Both statements name the same four compulsory subjects, so the only difference is the fifth credit. The general line restricts it to three named options while the waiver opens it to any science.
Both are reproduced exactly as published. The waiver is the UNIBEN-specific remark for this programme, so it is the one that governs that fifth place.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Chemistry or Biology
Chemistry is compulsory as an O’Level credit but shares the fourth UTME slot with Biology. Writing Chemistry keeps your JAMB subjects identical to four of your five credits.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Physics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- NCE/Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Physics, Mathematics, or Chemistry.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
The Waiver Opens the Fifth Credit to Any Science at UNIBEN Physics
Candidates who read only the general line may think the fifth credit must be Further Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science. The UNIBEN waiver accepts any other science in that place.
The four compulsory subjects are the same either way, so secure English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics first and treat the fifth credit as the flexible one.
Direct Entry accepts an NCE or two A Level passes in Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry, and UTME candidates need 200 or above in JAMB before screening.
