The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has published the entry requirements for its Department of Physics/Industrial Physics, covering the O’Level credits, two waiver remarks, the JAMB UTME combination and Direct Entry.

Two waiver remarks appear on this page, one for the O’Level credits and one for the UTME. Both are UNIBEN-specific and both are more precise than the general statements they follow.
The UTME waiver matters most, because the subject list printed above it holds five entries where JAMB registration takes four papers. The waiver names the three subjects that join the compulsory English Language.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Physics/Industrial Physics include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and any other Science subject from Further Mathematics and Biology or Agricultural Science.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIBEN requires ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics and any other Science subject in addition to English Language, Physics, and Chemistry.
English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are compulsory under both wordings. The difference is the fifth credit, which the general line limits to three named subjects and the waiver opens to any science.
Both passages stand exactly as published. Being the UNIBEN-specific remark, the waiver governs that fifth place.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Biology
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIBEN requires Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
The list above it shows five subjects where JAMB registration takes four papers. Both are reproduced as published, and the discrepancy is visible on the page rather than hidden.
This waiver gives the reading that matches the stated count. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, taken with the compulsory English Language, make up the four UTME subjects for this department.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Physics/Industrial Physics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- NCE/Two ‘A’ level passes in Physics, Mathematics, or Chemistry.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
The Waiver Names Only Three UTME Subjects at UNIBEN Industrial Physics
Where the UTME list shows five entries against a heading asking for four, the UNIBEN waiver gives the reading that adds up. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics join the compulsory English Language.
Those same four subjects are compulsory O’Level credits too, with a fifth science credit completing the requirement under the first waiver.
Direct Entry accepts an NCE or two A Level passes in Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry, and UTME candidates need 200 or above in JAMB before screening.
