This is to inform the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) that the admission requirements for the Department of Secretarial Education have been published.
The sections below cover the O’Level subject list, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, two Direct Entry routes, and the JAMB score needed to be eligible for screening into Secretarial Education.
Economics is the subject that runs through the requirement. It is named at O’Level and again in the UTME combination, alongside the compulsory English Language.
The remaining O’Level subjects come from a long business and social science list that includes Shorthand, Office Practice and Secretarial Duties, which suits candidates from commercial colleges.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Secretarial Education include Five SSCE passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Economics, and any two(2) subjects from below:
- Government
- Geography/Physics
- Accounting
- Business Methods
- History
- Shorthand
- Mathematics
- Commerce
- Principles of Accounts
- Office Practice
- Secretarial Duties
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Economics and any two (2) Social Science subjects.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Secretarial Education if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- NCE Business Education Social Studies Secretarial Education Major.
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Business Methods and any other Social Science subject and an ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.
Two Ways Into UNIBEN Secretarial Education
College of education graduates have the cleaner route. An NCE in Business Education, Social Studies or Secretarial Education as a major is accepted on its own, with no A Level passes required alongside it.
The A Level route is more specific. Two passes are needed, one in Business Methods and one in another social science subject, together with an O’Level pass in Mathematics.
UTME candidates sit English Language, Economics and two other social science subjects, and need a JAMB score of at least 200 to be eligible for screening at Benin.
