This is to inform the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) that the admission requirements for the Department of Social Works have been published.
The sections below cover the five O’Level credit passes, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, the A Level route into Direct Entry, and the JAMB score needed to be eligible for screening into Social Work.
Social Work is among the most open courses at Benin on subject grounds. Only English Language and Mathematics are named at O’Level, and the Direct Entry route accepts A Level passes in any subject.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Social Work include the following:
- Five SSCE credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Economics/Geography, and any other subject
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Social Work if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two ‘A’ level passes in any subject.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.
An Open Door With a High Score at UNIBEN Social Work
The subject conditions ask very little. Five SSCE credits including English Language and Mathematics, then English Language, Mathematics, Economics or Geography, and any other subject in UTME.
Direct Entry is equally relaxed, taking two A Level passes in any subject. That is unusual at Benin and makes this one of the easiest UNIBEN courses to qualify for on paper.
The screening threshold is where it tightens. UNIBEN requires a minimum of 200 in JAMB, so the competition happens on score rather than subject combination. Check the departmental cut-off for the session as well.
