The University of Calabar has published the admission requirements for its Department of Anatomy, covering the O’level credits, the UTME subject combination, the direct entry route and the JAMB score the university applies.

Anatomy sits within the medical sciences, and the entry conditions reflect that. All five O’level credits are named and all four UTME papers are fixed, with no substitution permitted anywhere.
Mathematics is the single difference between the two lists. It is required at O’level but does not appear among the UTME subjects, where the three laboratory sciences take the remaining places.
Direct entry here is an addition rather than an alternative, as the section below makes clear. Each requirement is given in the department’s own wording.
The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Anatomy include the following: Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
Five subjects, five credits, nothing optional. Check the grades rather than the subjects alone, since a pass in any one of these does not satisfy the condition.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
Mathematics drops out at this stage. Registering it in place of Physics, Biology or Chemistry will not meet the departmental requirement, however strong your overall score.
Direct Entry Requirement For Anatomy
Below is the Direct Entry Requirement for Anatomy:
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes chosen from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in addition to the UTME requirements.
Note the closing phrase. The A level passes are required in addition to the UTME requirements, so this route adds a condition rather than replacing one.
JAMB Score
For any candidate to be admitted to any Department in the University of Calabar, the Candidate must score 150 and above in JAMB.
This mark is set by the university for all departments. Medical science courses attract heavy competition, so a score at the minimum leaves little margin.

The Science Requirement Behind UNICAL Anatomy
There is nothing to negotiate in this application. Five named O’level credits, four fixed UTME papers, and a JAMB score of 150 or above.
The one thing worth planning around is Mathematics, which is required on your result sheet but has no place in the UTME combination.
Direct entry applicants need two A level science passes on top of those conditions. Confirm the current requirements with UNICAL before you register.
