Admission requirements for the Department of Botany, Biotechnology and Plant Science at the University of Calabar have been published. They cover the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME papers, the Direct Entry route and the JAMB score.
Biology and Chemistry are the two subjects every route here depends on. Both are compulsory O’Level credits, both are named JAMB papers, and both anchor the Direct Entry list.
The O’Level side names all five credits outright, so the only flexibility on this page sits in the fourth JAMB paper and in the Direct Entry pairing.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Botany, Biotech & Plant Science include the following: Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subject:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Biology
- Chemistry and any other Science Subject
Direct Entry Requirement For Botany, Biotech & Plant Science
Below is the Direct Entry Requirement for Botany, Biotech & Plant Science :
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Biology/Botany/Zoology and Chemistry or Physics.
JAMB Score
For any candidate to be admitted to any Department in the University of Calabar, the Candidate must score 150 and above in JAMB.

The UNICAL JAMB threshold is 150 and above for any department. With every O’Level credit specified, checking all five on your result slip is the first thing to do.
