That openness shifts the weight of the application onto the two scores. With subject conditions this flexible, the JAMB mark and the screening mark are what separate applicants from one another.

The admission requirements consist of O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.

UI Department Of Psychology Admission Requirements

O’level Subject Combinations

Candidates who wish to study Psychology at the University Of Ibadan (UI) must possess Five‘O level subjects in one sitting or 6 ‘O’ level subjects in 2 sittings, including the English Language, and any other four/five from Arts, Social Science or Science.

There are two accepted patterns here. Five subjects at one sitting, or six if your results come from two sittings, with English Language the only named subject in either case.

The extra subject attached to the two sitting option is easy to miss. Candidates who resat a paper should count six rather than five before assuming they qualify.

JAMB UTME Subject Combination

Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.

English Language and any three subjects.

This is as open as a UTME combination gets. Only English Language is specified, so the three remaining papers should be the ones you expect to score highest in.

Candidates sometimes assume Biology or Government is expected for Psychology. The department has not said so, and nothing in this requirement gives either subject an advantage.

UI JAMB Cut-Off Mark

Generally, For any candidate to be admitted into the University Of Ibadan (UI) for any course, the candidate must score 200 and above in jamb. That is to say that the University Of Ibadan (UI) JAMB Cut-Off mark is 200.

This mark applies to every course at UI. It is a condition of being considered rather than a target, and falling below it ends the application whatever else your results show.

UI Department Of Psychology Departmental Cut-Off Mark

The UI Department of Psychology Departmental Cut Off Mark is 200. That is to say that, Candidates who seek admission to the University Of Ibadan (UI) Department of Psychology must score 200 and above in the school UTME Screening exercise.

The two figures match, but they belong to different exercises. One is your JAMB result, the other is earned in the screening UI conducts afterwards, and both have to be met.

How Open the UI Psychology Requirements Really Are

On subjects, this is among the most accommodating departments at UI. English Language is the only fixed requirement, and your other credits can come from Arts, Social Science or Science.

On scores, it is far less forgiving. You need 200 in JAMB and 200 again in the UI screening exercise, so plan your preparation around both rather than treating the second as a formality.

Entry conditions at UI are reviewed from one admission cycle to the next. Confirm the current subject wording and both cut-off marks with the university before you register.
