Admission requirements for the Department of Education and Biology at the University of Calabar have been published. They cover the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME papers, the Direct Entry route and the JAMB score.
Biology is the teaching subject for this degree and it is required at every stage. It is a named O’Level credit, a compulsory JAMB paper, and the named subject for Direct Entry.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & Biology include the following: Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Mathematics and one (1) other subject.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Biology and two (2) other subjects from below:
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Physics
Direct Entry Requirement For Education & Biology
Below is the Direct Entry Requirement for Education & Biology:
- NCE/’A’ level passes in Biology and one (1) other Science subjects.

Biology Decides a UNICAL Education and Biology Application
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and one other subject, so four of the five are named.
That final place is not restricted to the sciences, which gives candidates with a mixed set of results somewhere to put their strongest remaining credit.
The JAMB combination fixes English Language and Biology, then takes two more papers from Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
Chemistry and Mathematics are both already compulsory O’Level credits here, so choosing those two keeps your UTME preparation inside work you are doing anyway.
Direct Entry takes an NCE or A level passes in Biology and one other Science subject. The UNICAL JAMB threshold is 150 and above for any department.
