Admission requirements for the Department of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Calabar have been published. They cover the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME papers, two Direct Entry routes and the JAMB score.

Medicine and Surgery allows no flexibility on subjects. All five O’Level credits are named, and the three sciences recur in the JAMB combination and again in the Direct Entry list.
The published JAMB figure of 150 is the university wide minimum rather than a departmental mark, so it should not be read as the standard this course actually applies.

About the University of Calabar
The University of Calabar is a federal university in Cross River State, in the south south region of Nigeria. It was established in 1975.
The university has a very large student and staff population and a diverse student body. All applicants to the university are accepted, regardless of their cultural or religious background. Additionally, there is no restriction on applicants’ ages.
No Substitutions in UNICAL Medicine and Surgery
The O’Level requirement names all five credits. English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with no optional place and no alternative subjects.
The JAMB papers are English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Mathematics is the only compulsory credit not repeated at UTME.
Direct Entry has two shapes. A level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology, or a BSc or similar degree in a relevant programme.
Read the first of those carefully. It is offered in addition to the UTME requirements rather than instead of them, so A level candidates still need the full O’Level set.
The 150 figure quoted is the UNICAL minimum for any department. Verify all five O’Level credits first, since a single missing subject closes this route entirely.
