O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Nursing and Public Health include the following: Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:

JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Physics

Below is the Direct Entry Requirement for Nursing and Public Health:
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Biology/ Zoology, Chemistry, and Physics plus three (3) other ‘O’ level credit pass in Mathematics, Physics, and English Language.

For any candidate to be admitted in any Department in the University of Calabar, the Candidate must score 150 and above in JAMB.
About the University of Calabar
The University of Calabar is a federal university in Cross River State, in the south south region of Nigeria. It was established in 1975.
The university has a very large student and staff population and a diverse student body. All applicants to the university are accepted, regardless of their cultural or religious background. Additionally, there is no restriction on applicants’ ages.
The NRN Route Into UNICAL Nursing and Public Health
For UTME candidates the position is simple. Five SSCE credit passes in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and English Language, then four JAMB papers in English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
The first Direct Entry route asks for two A level passes in Biology or Zoology, Chemistry and Physics, together with three O’Level credits in Mathematics, Physics and English Language.
The second recognises the NRN or an approved equivalent, alongside five O’Level credits in English Language and four science subjects.
That science list is broad, covering Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Human Anatomy, Physiology and Hygiene, Health Science, Further Mathematics and General Science.
A registered nurse with those credits therefore has a recognised path into the degree. The UNICAL JAMB threshold is 150 and above for any department.
