Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Mathematics include the following:
- Five (5) SSCE credit passes, including English Language, Mathematics, and Physics or Chemistry.
Only three places are defined, and the third is a straight choice between Physics and Chemistry. The last two credits carry no restriction at all.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics and any two (2) of Physics, Chemistry, and Economics or Geography
The JAMB form asks for more. Mathematics joins the compulsory English Language, and two further papers come from a list that adds Economics and Geography to the two sciences.
So a single science credit satisfies the O Level rule, while two further subjects are needed at registration.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Mathematics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics and any other science subject.
- NCE merit in Mathematics and one (1) in Physics, Chemistry, or Economics
The two Direct Entry routes differ slightly. The A Level route requires a second science subject, while the NCE route names Physics, Chemistry or Economics, so Economics qualifies on one and not the other.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNICROSS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 140 or above in your JAMB result.
One Science Credit, Two JAMB Papers at UNICROSS Mathematics
Mathematics is the constant, required among the credits, on the JAMB form and on both Direct Entry routes. What changes is how much science has to sit beside it.
A single credit in Physics or Chemistry is enough at O Level, while the UTME combination needs two further papers and allows Economics and Geography. Plan for at least two sciences and clear 140 in JAMB for the 2026/2027 session.
