Biochemistry at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) names every O’Level credit it wants, so there is nothing to interpret at that stage. The flexibility all sits in the Direct Entry section.
That section lists four separate routes, including one that accepts an NCE, ND or HND and another that allows Health Science in place of Biology for Applied Biochemistry.

Biochemistry Direct Entry Requirement
- Two ‘A’ level passes were chosen from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Biology.
- For Applied Biochemistry, Two A’level Passes in Health Science can be accepted in place of Biology.
- NCE/ND/HND in related field plus UTME requirement (above).
- KSU, ABSU, and IMSU do not accept Direct Entry Candidates
JAMB Score
For any candidate to be admitted to any Department in the University of Lagos, the Candidate must score 200 and above in JAMB.
Four Ways Into UNILAG Biochemistry, One Way Through O Level
The O’Level requirement names all five credits: English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology. Nothing is left open, so a candidate missing one of them cannot substitute another subject.
The UTME combination relaxes by one place. English, Biology and Chemistry are compulsory, and the fourth paper may be either Physics or Mathematics.
Direct Entry offers more than one door. Two ‘A’ level passes from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology is the standard route, and an NCE, ND or HND in a related field with the UTME requirement is also accepted.
A further allowance applies to Applied Biochemistry only, where two advanced level passes in Health Science may stand in place of Biology. That waiver does not extend to the main Biochemistry programme.
The Direct Entry list also carries a note that KSU, ABSU and IMSU do not accept Direct Entry candidates. That line concerns those institutions and has no bearing on an application to the University of Lagos, where the JAMB score condition is 200 and above.
