Economics is offered at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. This page sets out the O’Level credits, the JAMB combination, the Direct Entry route and the JAMB score.
UNILAG is a federal government research university in Lagos State, in south western Nigeria. It remains among the most competitive institutions in the country for admissions, and holds one of the largest student populations of any Nigerian university.
These requirements cover more than one department. The same O’Level and UTME combinations apply to seven related programmes in the same faculty.
Economics and Mathematics are compulsory O’Level credits and both appear in the JAMB combination, while Economics is also the fixed subject for Direct Entry.

Below is the UTME Requirement for Economics (in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences)
- Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any two (2) Arts or Social Science subjects.

Below is the JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION for Economics in the Social and Management Sciences faculty.
English Language(*), Economics, Mathematics, Government, History, Geography, Literature-in-English, French, and Christian Religious Studies/Islamic Studies.

Direct Entry Requirement For Economics
Below is the Direct Entry (DE) Requirement for Economics in the Social and Management Sciences faculty.
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Economics and any one (1) in Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Accounting, Business Management, History, and Government.
JAMB Score
For any candidate to be admitted to any Department in the University of Lagos, the Candidate must score 200 and above in JAMB.
One Requirement Set for Economics and Six Related UNILAG Courses
Economics with Statistics, Economics and Development Studies, Economics with Operation Research, Peace and Development Studies, Criminology and Penology, Criminology, and Criminology and Security Studies all share these rules.
The O’Level requirement is five SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two Arts or Social Science subjects.
The JAMB combination draws on English Language, Economics, Mathematics, Government, History, Geography, Literature in English, French, and Christian or Islamic Religious Studies.
Direct Entry asks for two A level passes, one in Economics and one from Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Accounting, Business Management, History or Government.
That list is wide enough that a science candidate with an Economics A level can use the route as readily as a social science one.
The JAMB score for any UNILAG department is 200 and above. Secure your Economics and Mathematics credits first, since every route on this page assumes them.
