This is to notify the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) that the Department of Banking & Finance admission requirements has been published.
The sections below cover the O’Level credit passes, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, the A Level route into Direct Entry, and the JAMB score needed to be eligible for screening into Banking and Finance.
English Language and Mathematics are the only two O’Level subjects the department names outright. The rest are described as relevant subjects, with a specific list offered to candidates holding NBC certificates.
At UTME the picture is firmer. Economics joins English Language and Mathematics, with the fourth subject taken from Government or Geography, so the combination has only two valid forms.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Banking and Finance include the following:
- Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include: English Language, Mathematics, and any other relevant subjects.
- For NBC, the other two (2) relevant subjects could be from any of the following, Accounting, Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Office Practice, and Economics.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Economics, plus any one (1) of Government and Geography
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Banking & Finance if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two (2) ‘A’ level passes chosen from Accounting, Economics, Management, Mathematics, Geography, and Statistics.

Economics Is the Quiet Requirement for UNIMAID Banking and Finance
Economics does not appear among the named O’Level subjects, yet it is compulsory in UTME. Candidates who leave it out of their school certificate are taking a risk, since the department clearly treats it as central to the course.
NBC holders have the clearest guidance on the remaining credits. Accounting, Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Office Practice and Economics are all named, which covers most business and commercial college subject combinations.
Direct Entry takes two A Level passes from Accounting, Economics, Management, Mathematics, Geography and Statistics. UTME candidates need a JAMB score of at least 160, with the departmental cut-off checked separately for the session.
